I graduated college without a clear idea of what in the world I planned to do with my degree in English. I have always had a strong affinity for the humanities, but also for technology and the ways in which it can transform the way we look and think about things. Libraries seemed to be a natural place to explore both, and after a couple of extra years of school I ended up being the digital projects manager for the South Carolina Digital Library. For years I was focused primarily on the digital production of materials and providing access to those resources, but have since found it's not enough to just put something out there and hope that people will find and use it. There are stories in those digital objects, and I want to be able to enable others to tell those stories through technology, or to discover stories that previously could not be seen because our minds are incapable of processing large-scale data or unable to recognize patterns. I want there to be a reason why we produce so much digital data.
